St Philip and St Paul with Wesley 2020 Vision

Our 2020 Vision: To live a shared life of love

By 2020: We want to be a vibrant, relevant and inclusive community of people inspired and empowered by God; looking forward with confidence to 2020 and beyond”.

Upwards—Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind”As Children of God, worshipping our Father in Heaven in an honouring, inspiring and transformational way

Inwards –“Love your neighbour as yourself”

As the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit, following Jesus in life-long discipleship and offering loving service to one another, exercising the gifts of the Holy Spirit

Outwards – “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

As “salt and light”, empowered by the Holy Spirit, witnessing to the love of God by serving the community and growing in numbers as people come to faith in Jesus.

Our Church Core Values

  • We put God first
  • We are grounded in the Bible, living in grace
  • We trust in each other, promoting harmony, mutual respect and forbearance
  • We recognise the need for leadership, and are open to challenge
  • We have concern for and seek to serve our community
  • We value our past and are open to the future
  • We long to be a church for all ages
  • We seek to be a community of welcome, and acceptance
  • We seek to empower all members to use their gifts in ministry and service

By 2020, PPW will have undergone a paradigm shift to being a mission-shaped church by having…

Burst out of the confines of Sunday mornings to give birth to at least one additional form of church

  • Reaching the unreached/under-reached
  • Being continuously surprised by abundance of harvest; for example, but not limited to: release of talent, release of energy, attendance at beginners’/nurturing courses, desire for baptism/confirmation, commitment to PPW as a community as a whole …etc

Developed a culture of deepening discipleship and effective pastoral care

  • Prayer as standard’: diverse prayer activities ranging from individual through Lyfe Groups to prayer events leading to evidence, and celebration of answered prayer
  • Passion for engagement with the Bible on individual, group and collective levels

Seen growth in numbers of teenagers and young adults

  • Growing leaders
  • Growing and harnessing teenage/young adult talent

Become a community of nurture and affirmation for people over 70 years of age

  • Further developing ‘church where you are’
  • Harnessing older people’s wisdom, talent and energy

Developed a culture of ‘easy-yoke’ for all fulfilling any role

  • Pruning activities
Systematic nurturing including facilitating breaks & culture of honest, ‘cards-on-the-table’ sharing of ‘where we’re at’

“We want to be a vibrant, relevant and inclusive community of people inspired and empowered by God; looking forward with confidence to 2020 and beyond”.

Each year as a council, we re-look at our ‘roadmap’, consider all that has been done in the previous 12 months and we set our goals for the next 12 months. During that time, the staff team and the leadership team review our progress regularly.
